About GATE

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is jointly conducted by IISc Bangalore and seven IITs on a rotational basis. It tests comprehensive understanding of undergraduate engineering, technology, architecture, science, and humanities subjects. GATE scores are used for M.Tech/PhD admissions in IITs, NITs, and IISc, as well as for PSU recruitment by organizations like ONGC, NTPC, IOCL, BHEL, and GAIL. The score is valid for three years.

How to Upload Your Signature for GATE

1. Visit the official GATE website (the URL changes yearly based on the organizing IIT, e.g., gate2025.iitr.ac.in).
2. Register using GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System) with your email and phone number.
3. Upload a recent passport-size photograph in JPEG/JPG (5-200KB) with a white background, without name/date stamp.
4. Upload a scanned signature in JPEG (5-100KB) and a valid photo ID proof (PDF, 100-500KB).
5. Select your GATE paper, up to three exam cities, pay the fee, and download the submitted application.

Common Signature Mistakes to Avoid

• Adding a name and date stamp to the GATE photo. Unlike NTA exams, GATE does NOT require name/date printed on the photograph.
• Using the wrong year's GATE portal. Each year a different IIT hosts GATE, and old URLs become inactive.
• Uploading a photo ID proof in JPEG instead of PDF format, which GOAPS requires for the ID document.
• Not keeping the original digital files, which are needed if the organizing IIT asks for correction during the verification window.
